Installing the Latest FPX/MIX Graphics Filter

Microsoft PhotoDraw creates and saves picture files in the MIX file format. The FPX/MIX graphics filter (Fpx32.flt) that PhotoDraw installs is newer than the one that comes with Microsoft Office 2000.

If you want users to install the latest filter but you don’t want them to install PhotoDraw, you can choose to upgrade the version of Fpx32.flt that comes with Office 2000. Doing so can prevent error messages from appearing when users insert PhotoDraw MIX files into their Office 2000 documents or presentations.

You can install or upgrade the filter in one of three ways:

• By replacing the existing filter on the Office administrative installation point. When you set Fpx32.flt to be installed on first use, Setup automatically installs and registers the filter the first time a user inserts a MIX file into an Office document.
• By replacing the existing filter on a client computer. You can create a batch file that copies the latest version of Fpx32.flt to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Graphflt on users’ hard disks. After replacing the filter, you must instruct the batch file to register the filter by running Regsvr32.
• By running client Setup for PhotoDraw on users’ computers. You can install the filter locally without installing the rest of PhotoDraw by clearing all installation options in Setup except for FPX/MIX File Format under Graphics Filters.
