Installing Office in a Windows Terminal Server EnvironmentHow to Install Office Disc 2 on a Windows Terminal ServerYou install Microsoft Publisher 2000 and other applications from Microsoft Office 2000 Disc 2 on a Windows Terminal Server computer in much the same way you install Microsoft Office 2000 Disc 1 on a Terminal Server computer, except that no special transform (MST file) is needed. Running Publisher on individual users’ computers is different than running it in a Windows Terminal Server environment. When you install Publisher on a Terminal Server computer, the users who connect to the server are limited to your Publisher configuration. In other words, all users running Publisher from the Terminal Server computer inherit the features you select and the options you set during installation. If your users need different sets of Publisher functionality, you might need several Terminal Server computers — one for each unique Publisher configuration. Important To run Setup, you must use Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel with the All users begin with common application settings option selected. This setting runs Setup in Install mode, which installs Office for all Terminal Client users who connect to the Terminal Server. If you run Setup directly from Office Disc 2, then Setup runs in Execute mode, which installs Office only for the user running Setup. To install Office Disc 2 on a Terminal Server computer
Note If you install all the clip art files on the Terminal Server computer, you need approximately 400 MB of available disk space. The following Office Disc 2 features do not perform well in the Terminal Server environment, so consider setting them to Not Available:
Leave the Office Assistant feature itself set to Run from My Computer. This setting installs the files necessary to support an Office assistant you might want to install later (such as the Motionless Office Assistant, which is included in the Office Resource Kit). In addition, the following Office Disc 2 features are not supported in the Terminal Server environment, so set them to Not Available:
Toolbox After running Office Disc 2 Setup, you can install the Motionless Office Assistant (Stillogo.acs) included in the Office Resource Kit. This Office Assistant uses no animation, so there is minimal network traffic between the Terminal Server computer and the Terminal Client computer. For information about installing the Motionless Office Assistant, see Terminal Server Tools. See alsoThe procedure for installing Office Disc 2 is very similar to the procedure for installing Office Disc 1, except that the use of a transform is not required. For more information, see How to Install Office Disc 1 on a Windows Terminal Server. |
