Maintaining Office Server Extensions
Managing Web Discussions on an OSE-extended Web
The Microsoft Office Server Extensions (OSE) Administration Home Page has several options to help you manage the Web Discussions feature on your OSE-extended web. When managing the Web Discussions feature, you can:
- Limit discussions to only documents on the OSE-extended web.
With OSE, users can create discussions on any local server Web page that contains an Office, Rich Text Format (RTF), or HTML file. Users can also create discussions in files located on remote servers. However, you can limit discussions to the local server to prevent the database from becoming too large.
- Enable automatic deletion of discussion items.
With OSE, discussions remain in the database permanently unless you delete them manually or enable the automatic deletion feature. You can specify a maximum length of time for a discussion item to remain in the database. When the discussion item surpasses that maximum length of time, it is automatically deleted from the database that the OSE-extended web uses.
- Delete all discussion items or selected discussion items in a particular document.
With OSE, you can view the list of files being discussed, select a file, select one or all discussion items, and then delete the discussion or discussions from the database. Managing discussion items selectively helps you keep disk space available, and moderate discussions when necessary.
- Disable the Web Discussions feature.
With OSE, you can disable the Web Discussions feature when you want to offer the Web Discussions feature to your users at a later time or if your Web server has limited disk space, memory, or processor speed.
